The Dam In the Barrens
This chapter starts off exactly where the "Bill Denbrough Beats the Devil (I)" chapter ended, definitely cementing the notion that it was intended to follow it.
The adult Eddie has his flashback of himself, Bill, and Ben arriving in the Barrens and building their dam with the help of Richie and Stan. Ben, using his incredible architecture skills, leads them off, and they build a remarkable structure. Afterward, Bill mentions the supernatural thing has has witnessed, causing Ben to share his own story, and Eddie now tells his Horrific Experience: this same clown the others have seen has appeared to him in the form of a leper under the abandoned house on Neibolt Street. Richie has not had any experience, and Stan is about to reveal his when suddenly they are interrupted by Officer Nell.
This is a good chapter and the leper is an interesting mix to the other types of creatures we've been seeing so far. It's something that's creepy in a modern way. Stan's Horrific Experience is not told here, but in the "Cleaning Up" chapter. I assume this is because King realized it would seem redundant here right after Eddie's story, but has a little more breathing space there.
Finally, I should mention that this chapter includes my favorite joke in the entire novel, during which Eddie discusses sex with a boy named Boogers and a fluid that "most kids call come, but the scientific name for is jizzum." I thought that was hysterical the first time I read it, and it's still a pretty funny bit of writing today.
